Photography destination: São Brás de Alportel

My new home village of São Brás de Alportel is a quiet refuge from the popular beach destinations of the Algarve. This village still enables an unhurried lifestyle and destination throughout the year with a friendly local population.

As a photography destination, São Brás de Alportel is a typical Algarve town with a small but beautiful old village center. This makes the village a great and easy to navigate destination to photograph the typical tiled houses, ornate stonework, cast iron verandas and cobbled roads that the Algarve is famous for. Not only great for capturing street photography, but also as a setting for wedding photography, portraits and editorial photoshoots. Highlights are the Igreja Matriz De São Brás de Alportel, the baroque mortar decoration of the Passo da Paixão, the Cineteatro, the central square and the Museo de Traje. São Brás de Alportel is not only a typical Algarve village, hidden throughout the village are also some great street art pieces which give a vibrant contrast.

Night photography in São Brás de Alportel

If you have time left, photographing the village at night gives a great extra dimension with the street lights creating shadows and loads of atmosphere. Ranging from the dimly lit alleys of the old town to the brightly neon lit municipal council.

The countryside around São Brás de Alportel

The photographic opportunities don’t stop at the village border, with a beautiful countryside where time sometimes seem to have stood still. Keep your eye out for piles of cork the area is famous for, sheep herders, windmills and even action sports, as the area is popular for mountain-biking.
